Many browsers have features that display recently visited sites. The safest way to find information on the internet is at a local library, an internet café, a friend’s house, or at work.
Clearing Your Browser History
You can hide some, but not all, of your internet activities by making changes to your computer’s browser (a program used to navigate the World Wide Web) whether that be Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox, Chrome, Safari or other browsers. You can find the name of the browser in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
The following are instructions for you to delete the history in Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox, Chrome and Safari.
Internet Explorer:
- Look for the Tools option in the browser’s menu bar. By default, the menu may be hidden. If it is, press the Alt key on the keyboard to display the menu.
- In the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
- On the General page (usually the first page), under Browsing History, click Delete.
- You will need to check the Temporary Internet files, Cookies, and History checkboxes.
Firefox:
- Look for the History option in the browser’s menu bar. By default, the menu may be hidden. If it is, press the Alt key on the keyboard to display the menu.
- Select History from the top menu.
- Select Clear recent history from the dropdown list.
- Make sure that the four Clear History entries are selected, and then click Delete.
Firefox has Private Browsing so that the browser will not remember anything you do from the point you start using it until you close the browser. Enable Private Browsingby going to the Tools menu and selecting Start Private Browsing.
Chrome:
- Click the spanner icon in the browser toolbar.
- Select Tools.
- Select Clear browsing data.
- In the dialogue box that appears, select the Clear browsing history checkbox.
Safari
- Click the Settings button in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
- Select Reset Safari… from the drop-down list. From here you can clear, delete or reset a lot of the website information that Safari stores.
- Click your cursor only in the box next to the items in the menu you want to delete, clear or reset.
- Click the Reset button when you are finished.
Please be aware that you need to be cautious whenever you are using the internet, including your email and social media (Facebook, Twitter) websites.
